I just completed the first month at my social media internship and here's what I think...

After a long and strenuous search for an internship, I finally landed one at Pinch Social, a boutique social media agency located in Downtown Toronto. It has a small yet efficient team with clients of the likes of Steam Whistle, Baton Rouge and Diamond and Diamond.

My day starts off with a daily morning meeting in which the team members discuss all the tasks that they are going to undertake during the day and ask for support from each other if required. After the morning meeting, we go on with the rest of the day which consists of a lot of routine tasks like content curation, editing videos, scheduling posts, etc. Throughout the day I have several internal meetings with account leads to discuss strategy for clients and discuss the plan of action.

Since it is a boutique agency with a team of only 13 people (including me), it allows me to do multi-disciplinary work and learn a lot more. So far, I am having a great time learning and working at this agency.

Recently I was entrusted with the responsibility of directing a shoot for our client Baton Rouge. For this shoot, we need to capture content that would be going out on their social media for the month of October. Some of the predominant themes that the client had requested for this shoot were featuring a girl’s night, date night, their bestsellers, their new menu items that were going to be available for a limited time, among other things. Another avenue that they wanted us to focus on was creating reels for their Instagram page.

After a brainstorming session with the team, I went ahead and created a shot list for the shoot. This was a fun experience. I had to create a very detailed list of every shot we were going to take at the shoot, make a list of all the requirements (like props, food items, no of models, etc.), and make a timetable to ensure that the shoot was executed within the time that was reserved for us at the restaurant.

Since we are a very resourceful company, I had to model for many of these shots myself and these videos and photos are going to be out on their social media pages soon. Besides that, we got to eat all the delicious food and drinks that we used for the shoot. I am looking forward to the rest of my time at this company.
